This week was marked by continued efforts for disaster relief in Haiti, and this week also was marked by an unprecedented joint meeting of the Boards of the Jewish Federation of Broward County, the David Posnack Hebrew Day School, and the David Posnack Jewish Community Center. Over the course of a four-hour evening, a joint presentation was made to the three Boards followed by an open microphone question and answer period and then individual meetings of each agency's Board held concurrently in separate rooms.
In reading parsha Bo in the book of Exodus (Shemot) 10:1 - 13:6, we read the continuation of the plagues story after which Pharaoh releases the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt that we recount during the Passover (Pesach) Seder. We read in Exodus (Shemot) 13:14, "And when, in time to come, your son [or daughter] asks you, saying, 'what does this mean?' You shall say to him [or her], 'It was with a mighty hand that the Lord brought us out from Egypt, the house of bondage.'"
As an active participant in the weeks and months of planning and work that led up to this joint meeting of the three Boards, I feel some sense of the Biblical passage, marking the turning point into a new era. At the conclusion of the evening, all three Boards approved a Tripartite Agreement for the relocation of the Middle School and High School of the David Posnack Hebrew Day School to the Jewish community campus in Davie. More than the efficiencies and other tangible benefits of this happening, the cooperation and collaboration of the agencies involved truly will be the most significant benefit for our Broward Jewish community.
