Daniel Cantor Senior Center Hosts "Senior" Senior Prom

David Posnack Hebrew Day School Honor Society Sponsors
and Arranges Commemorative Dance for Senior Citizens

Senior Prom is not just for 12th graders!  The Daniel Cantor Senior Center, a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Broward County, hosted a beautiful prom at its Sunrise facility.  With the help and support of teenagers from the David Posnack Hebrew Day School Honor Society, nearly 100 seniors danced the day away for their very own senior prom.

“This was an amazing night,” said Gail Weisberg, executive director at the Senior Center.  “I was so impressed by the work of the students, and so gratified by the smiles on the faces of our seniors.”

Weisberg said that the Honor Society students, led by Chelsea Gober, ran the entire event and, through their own fundraising efforts, also paid for it.  With music and merriment, food and flowers, the senior citizens recalled their own prom days, and danced with new friends – including the teens!

“We had so much fun making all the arrangement for the people at the Cantor Center,” said Chelsea Gober.  “But it was even more fun going to the prom with them and seeing all our hard work turn into a great event that they all loved so much.”

There were nearly 50 students from the David Posnack Hebrew Day School who helped organize the “Senior” Senior Prom, from hiring a DJ and photographer to selecting the menu.  “These kids did an amazing job!” said Weisberg.

The seniors waltzed and fox trotted all night long.  Weisberg hopes that subsequent Honor Society classes will make this event an annual tradition.
