Adult Day Care Alzheimer's Program at Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center

Among the numerous services provided by the Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center is the Adult Day Care Alzheimer’s Program.  With carefully crafted programs that are planned to stimulate and maximize function and to enhance a sense of self, the Cantor Center provides significant and meaningful care.

The Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center is licensed by the State of Florida for 100 participants daily, for whom the Center makes available door-to-door transportation as well as a kosher lunch. While the Center is caring for the individual, respite for the caregiver is given – which is of tremendous importance.  They then have the time they need to meet other responsibilities and to take care of themselves. In addition, the Center offers Caregivers Support Groups bi-weekly. “One of the most important services that the Cantor Center provides is respite for the loved ones of our Alzheimer’s clients.  The peace of mind that these caregivers have knowing that their loved ones are in a safe nurturing place is worth everything,” said Richard Finkelstein, president of the Board of Directors for the Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center.

Providing optimal care is a goal for the Program and the Center, and to that end there is a 6 to 1 ratio of participants to staff, which allows the staff to give personalized attention. According to Gail Weisberg, Executive Director of the Daniel D. Cantor Senior Center, the work that the staff does is truly a marvel.  “Recently, someone referred to our Alzheimer’s/Respite program as the Rolls Royce of Adult Day Care Centers.  We couldn’t do as much as we do if it wasn’t for the Jewish Federation of Broward County’s continued financial support of this important program.”

Weisberg said that mental and physical stimulation are offered by way of Adult Basic Education classes and afternoons are filled with creative outlets including art, music, plays and poetry.   “It’s truly a special place.”
