National Concerns

National and International Issues

There are many 'national' issue-areas with which the Federation concerns itself.  Many of these are specific local issues, but some stem from national priorities set by United Jewish Communities through the Washington Action Office (WAO) and our partnering national organization, Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA).

Priorities

Each year, through a series of meetings, task forces, plenums and resolutions, both the Washington Action Office and JCPA create a set of national priorities that federations around the country are able to use as 'guide points' for local strategies and programming.

Security

Security and the safety of our community is a priority issue for our community organizations and the Federation. The Federation is working with area agencies, synagogues and federal, state and local law enforcement officials in order to make our communtiy as secure as possible.

For more on recent meetings between communtiy organizations and law enforcement officials, please see the article below.

Also, please make sure that your organization has a copy of the ADL Security manual - a 'must-read' on security awareness matters. To obtain a copy of this manual, go to the following website:

Confronting Poverty

Over the past three years JCPA has dedicated much time to a variety of issues under the umbrella of 'Confronting Poverty'. Finding ways to erradicate the need for food stamps, helping to secure funds for better medical treatment and examining best practices around the country are only three aspects of this important program.

For more on the Confronting Poverty agenda, see the JCPA documents listed below:

Saving Darfur

High on the international agenda for JCPA is the resolution of the situation in Darfur. An entire 'Save Darfur' campaign has been initiated by JCPA and federations across the country in order to highlight this terrible situation.
