Mission


Since 1977, the Southeast Focal Point/Joseph Meyerhoff Senior Center has served the needs of the SE Broward community.  The mission is to meet the needs of older adults and their families, with care and dignity by providing the community a variety of programs and services. 


Objectives/Services

 

Main objectives are to keep the elderly in their homes for as long as possible and delaying any type of institutionalized placement and to provide community-based care for as long as possible to preserve their independence for as long as possible.

 

Services are provided to those seniors who are 60 years of age and older and where support is needed, to their family caregiver. Programs and services provided are for independent seniors we provide:

·         Exercise programs, tai chi, yoga, Zumba

·         Meditation, current events, Jewish history, music therapy

·         Jewelry making, needlework, painting

·         BINGO, games, brain aerobics

·         English for Speakers of Other Languages

·         Day trips, out-of-town group travel and cruises

·         Transportation services

·         Counseling Health Support, Information and Referral, Public Education/Training

·         Congregate meal site with a Kosher option

 

For the frail, elderly including those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, we have an AHCA licensed Adult Day Care.  Structured, supervised activities include live music twice a week, music therapy, reminiscence therapy, pet therapy, yoga, arts & crafts.

Through the National Family Caregiver’s Act, a Caregiver Support Program has been established to provide Counseling and support groups for caregivers.

 

Our Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative program provides caregivers of Alzheimer’s clients In-Home Respite services, Case Management and additional Caregiver Training & Support Groups. 

 

The Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program (EHEAEP) is a federally-funded program where senior citizens are assisted when they have a final notice on their electric bill. 

 

The BSIE program – Broward Senior Intervention & Education is a pre-trial court intervention program.
